ABC + Olympics = Better Coverage

If you're like me and like to watch the Olympics, you have avoided the news all day for the past two weeks, just so you can Olympic coverage on NBC without knowing what will happen when viewing. On many of the days, I accidentally viewed a Website or overheard a conversation about who the winners were. In addition, the broadcast goes until 12:30am, when it's already a delayed broadcast.

NBC has a large opportunity for making more of the events live in general, and especially for those who live on the west coast. For example...this year's Olympics hosted one biggest events of all time, Michael Phelps' eight gold medal swim. Here in the West Coast it was a delayed broadcast on a Saturday, yet still claimed it was, "live". What is the excuse for this?

Rival company ABC has stated that they are going to bid for the next available Olympic games telecasts for the 2014 & 2016 games. ABC commented on NBC's practices by saying, "We would never put an event on tape delay. When we put 'live' on the screen, we mean 'live right now.' We don't mean live three hours ago."

NBC primarily tape delayed these events to gain higher ratings at more premium times. What NBC executives don't understand is with all the different forms of media that are available to viewers now...many people might not tune in to view the event at all anymore if they already know the outcome.

NBC's coverage was good, but I hate them not showing the events live.

I open the challenge to have ABC host the Olympics!

First it was NBA basketball, now it's going to be the Olympics.
